SINGLE MOMS MINISTRY FORMING
A single moms ministry is being formed designed just for you. You are invited to a conversation about ministry possibilities, needs that can be met and even possible names for this exciting new ministry. It happens on Sunday, August 22nd in Room 206 during the Sunday school hour. Your children can attend the children's Sunday school program while you join us. Questions? SENIOR HIGH, MIDDLE SCHOOL, FALL RETREAT
Unchained Ministries has scheduled a fall retreat at Spring Hill Camp for both Senior and Junior High students. Senior High is August 27-29th and Junior High (middle school) is September 17-19th. You can reserve your spot on-line at avalonyouth.com, hit the "trips & events" tab and fill out the form. Registration and payment is due for both retreats, Sunday , August 22nd. The cost is $110. SENIORS EXTRAVAGANZA COMING AUGUST 28TH
The Missionary Church, Inc. and FWBC Alumni & Friends are sponsoring a Seniors Extravaganza on August 28, 2010 from 2:00 - 8:00 PM at First Missionary Church, 701 W Rudisill Blvd, Fort Wayne IN. An afternoon and evening of singing, outstanding quartets, trios, choirs, great fellowship, and good food will make this a memorable day. There will be excellent preaching that will challenge you to not let 65+ be a time of retirement from Kingdom work. Make plans now for this special event.
CHURCH PICNIC COMING AUGUST 29TH!
Make sure you mark your calendars for our annual church picnic, Sunday, August 29th following our second service. The church will be providing the meat and drinks. We're asking that you bring along a dish or two to share with others. In addition to sharing around the table, we like to play games out on the lawn. You may want to bring along lawn chairs or a blanket to sit on outside. It's a great way to get to know others in our church. Plan to either come back or stay after the second service, and join us for a time of fellowship and fun.

YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS ARE ENCOURAGED!
Our Nominations Committee will soon be hard at work seeking the Lord's direction for the names of the folks we'll have on the ballot to serve on our Leadership Council here at Avalon. This year we'll be voting to affirm someone for the following positions: Chairperson, Treasurer and a member of the Leadership Council. The members of our nominations committee would like your input! At the Welcome Center you will find recommendation cards. If you would like to recommend a member of our church for consideration by the Nominations Committee, please fill out the card and drop it in the basket. At the Welcome Center you will also find a copy of our handout on the Biblical Qualities of Leaders. You may wish to reflect upon these as you consider whom you might recommend. Your help in this process is extremely valuable!
RECYCLING
We have started recycling. We would ask that you be conscientious about placing the correct items in the right bins. Trash bins will have a liner, recycle bins will not. We want to practice good environmental stewardship, even if that takes a little more effort on our part. Thank you for helping by placing recyclables and non-recyclables in the right containers. There will be lists posted as reminders. Thank You.
A KEY CHANGE - PLEASE NOTE
The key box combination has not been changed for a long time, so, for security reasons it was changed. You are still welcome to access the building through the key box but these numbers are not posted. Please call the office at 747-1531 or Deanna DeTurk at 750-7099 to obtain the combination. Sorry if this is any inconvenience, it just is important to keep our buildings secure.

BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS
The Health and Wellness Ministry will resume blood pressure checks starting today! The third Sunday of the month will be designated for this purpose. Ministry members will be available in the pre-school office after first service and before second service (9:30-10:30 a.m.).
The ministry team would like to update their Medical Personnel List of those who are RNs, LPNs, Paramedics, EMTs or other Allied Health folks for availability if needed. If you fit in any of those area of expertise please fill out the bulletin tear-off under Opportunities' and drop it in the offering plate.

When there are crises in our church family or other important needs that arise during the week, we often send out this information via our website mailing list. If you didn't receive any e-mails from us this past week, then you're not on the list. All you need to do to make sure you're informed is click on "Site Mailing List" at the bottom of the page. MAIL FOLDERS
If you are interested In getting prayer sheets, the monthly Connection, and other information about the church, you are very welcome to have a mail folder. The folders are located in the foyer, next to the drinking fountains. Just take a moment to fill out the tear-off with your name and check under OPPORTUNITIES that you would like a mail folder. Then place it in the offering plate.

FOOD PANTRY - spaghetti sauce
If you have a garden, and fruits and vegetables are in abundance, would you consider sharing any extra with the food pantry? It's always a treat to have garden fresh items. If you haven't given before, we would ask that you prayerfully consider giving to our pantry. Along with the regular item of the week the pantry can always use plastic grocery bags. Thank you.
The pantry is averaging 100 families weekly and would appreciate male helpers to assist with carrying. If you would like to get involved or need assistance contact Ginny Bilby (639-3874).

Only when you have been on the receiving end of the outpouring of love and support of the Avalon people, can you truly appreciate that love.
